Aveirobus weekday timetable (in force since 1 May 2024); Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays have their own table.

Launch or bus instead of the ferry In bad weather, during breakdowns or maintenance, Aveirobus runs the crossing with a launch or replaces it with a bus. The Transria launch carries up to 40 passengers and 6 bikes and takes no cars. The replacement bus timetable is linked from the timetable PDF, but the link returned an error; check on +351 234 322 322.

Groups of 10 or more For groups of 10 or more, Aveirobus asks for tickets to be requested in advance through the 'Ferryboat: viagem em grupo' form on its website.

Aveirobus fares in force from 1 November 2026 (October 2026 edition). Car and motorbike fares include the driver; bikes are free and only the rider pays. Return tickets are valid for 24 hours. Caravans, or vehicles towing a trailer, are limited to 2.45 m in height. Tickets are sold from the machines on the São Jacinto and Forte da Barra quays. The November price list gives no age range for the child ticket; Aveirobus's previous table, in force from August 2024, applied it to ages 4 to 12 and to over-65s. São Jacinto residents have their own tickets, with proof of residence from the parish council. All fares in euros (EUR).

The car ferry between Forte da Barra and São Jacinto crosses the Aveiro lagoon (ria de Aveiro) as part of the city's Aveirobus network. Aveirobus is the Aveiro council's transport concession, operated by Transdev. The main boat, the Salicórnia, takes up to 252 passengers and 19 vehicles, with a height limit of 2.45 m, and the timetable allows 15 minutes for the trip.

There are two tables. On weekdays the first boat leaves São Jacinto shortly before 7am and the last one leaves Forte da Barra at 23:30. On Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays the day starts later, but there are the same number of crossings and the same last sailing. The current timetable has applied since 1 May 2024 (March 2025 edition) and has no end date.

New fares came in on 1 November 2026. A single still costs €2.40 per passenger and €7.20 for a car including the driver; motorbikes pay €3.60 and caravans €14.55. Returns are valid for 24 hours: €3.90 per passenger, €1.55 for children and seniors and €10.90 for a car. Bikes travel free. You buy tickets from the machines on both quays.

Without a car, you can rely on Busway line 36: Aveirobus says every ferry timetable connects directly with it to and from Aveiro city. Residents of São Jacinto have their own tickets, which need proof of address from the parish council.

In bad weather, or when the ferry is broken down or in maintenance, Aveirobus may switch to the Transria launch, which only carries foot passengers and bikes, or to a replacement bus, so drivers should check before setting out. Groups of ten or more are asked to request tickets in advance. The helpline, +351 234 322 322, answers on weekdays from 9:00 to 19:00.

  • Get to the pier in good time: vehicle boarding can close before the departure time.
  • Check the operator's notices on the day — bad weather, swell, fog or breakdowns can change or cancel crossings.
  • Check where to buy your ticket and which travel passes or transport cards the route accepts.
